Old World Charm of Landour – Rokeby Manor

Memories of journeys never leave the mind. The most beautiful ones keep replaying, leaving one yearning for a trip like that, again! Isn’t it? ??‍♀️

Our decision to visit Uttarakhand was out of a whim quite literally ? since we all were stuck at home for the past seven months and were unaware of the state rules – to go or not to go! After a lot of research, we decided to go ?‍♀️

Our last stop was Mussoorie (Landour) which is now my favourite place in India!! ?

We reached Mussoorie after a full fledged seven hours of a hectic drive across the Garhwal Himalayan range. As soon as we reached Landour (a town where you’ll lose track of time), which is a bit higher up than Mussoorie, it felt like we stepped foot in an english countryside. Landour is a small cantonment town where they have strict rules against construction. So if Mussoorie bloated in all possible ways, little Landour stayed the way it was -quiet, picturesque and untouched.

We had booked our stay in Rokeby Manor which is a luxury hotel in the heart of Landour. It’s brick arches, intricate stonewalls, cobbled stoned streets, victorian fireplaces, with an outdoor jacuzzi on the top of the property gives the best tranquillising views of the mighty Himalayas. One can hire mountain bikes and scooters from the hotel to explore the whole of Landour. No five star experience can be compared to this. It’s an experience in itself.

And the cherry on the cake were the Christmas decorations, it gave all the christmassy vibes. We had booked a Rustic room with the best window view, which took you directly to the tea garden from where you can witness the best sunset in India (truly ?)

Rokeby has a lot of room options, all the rooms offered are unique in itself & are cozy. ??‍♀️ Best part about the room is its fully functional air conditioners which go upto 30 degrees while the outside goes upto -4 degrees ❄️ (which is rare to find in the mountains).

That morning sun has three times broke, on Rokeby’s glades of elm and oak” – Sir Walter Scott

This homely hotel has a lot of restaurants/cafes/bar/spa of their own in and around the property. During the time of our visit we had our breakfasts & dinner in Emilys restaurant which is on the first floor of the property overlooking the Mussoorie ridge line & serves the best wholesome food. Other cafe includes the iconic clock tower cafe & the very famous Landour bakehouse which has the best desserts in whole of Mussoorie.

The other options includes Cafe IVY famous for the hot chocolate + breathtaking views + great ambience + delectable food. Best of both worlds ?

P.S. Every evening in Rokeby, there are a bunch of chocolates made in house with hot chocolate sent to your room. Isn’t that what you wish for on a cold winter night?

Best time to visit – November to February mark the winter months in Landour. The day temperature rises around 10-12 degrees but the nights are quite cold around 0. It gets decent amount of snowfall, whenever visiting Landour in winters, make sure you have a few days extra as rain & snowfall sometimes blocks road.

Hey Mussoorie, we love you ? Can’t wait to come back!

Landour should be on every mountain-lover’s bucket list ????
