London, a bastion of culture, art, food, literature and amazing parks! A lot of them!
Let me tell you London is gloriously green, with royal parks, playing spaces, nature reserves spread at distant places. I love the colour of the skies and the natural light here – helps with the pictures. Although the weather is quite unpredictable. One minute it’s sunny and the other minute it start’s drizzling.
That’s British Summer for you 😉
On those sunny days we happened to go on road-trips in an around the UK. We visited some lovely little english towns. From the flea market to the little lanes besides the cafe’s and restaurants buzzing with people. Pretty houses lined up with thatched roofs and the grass in the garden perfectly mowed. I loved every bit of it.
We took road trips to Windsor, Durdle door+Lulworth Cove and Bath.
Here’s a small guide to it.
Windsor City – Windsor is a lively historic market town with river Thames in the backdrop. You can experience windsor river cruises or duck tours which are quite interesting with all the history the city has to offer. Also you can ride on a horse-drawn carriage, straight out of the movies? Eh.
Windsor Castle being the major tourist attraction, it is one of the official residences of the British Royal Family for over 1,000 years now. Windsor Castle offers something for everyone, and with so many areas to explore please allow at least 2.5 to 3 hours to see it all. From visiting the magnificent State Apartments to Queen Mary’s doll house which was created in the 1920s and filled with thousands of objects made by leading craftsmen, artists and designers of the time. If you do a little research before the visit you may get to see the change of guards.
To avoid the long queues it’s preferable to book tickets online in advance. Windsor Castle is open to the public all year round.
Easiest way to get to windsor is by rail from London Paddington station.
Quick fact : If you spot the flag above the castle that says the Queen is in the residence.
“We all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon” – Konrad Adenauer
Durdle door – Durdle Door is a world-famous geological wonder!
A natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast near Lulworth in Dorset, England. This place is privately owned by Welds but open to the public. It has a sloping beach for bathing or snorkeling from, caves and exciting rock strata. There’s a little bit of hiking involved from Lulworth Cove to the beach although it makes a nice place to have picnic, sunbathe and go swimming or just relax by the beach.
You can rent in camping pods in the lulworth estate. These wooden pods are a great back to nature experience. It doesn’t get more idyllic than durdle dor. It’s just perfect for those who share a love of the outdoors, the coast and the countryside. Hours and hours on the beach and nothing else 😉
Getting to durdle door can be a hassle. Renting a car would be an ideal thing to do.
P.S – Don’t miss the sunset.
If you’ve planned only a day out, then you may have to miss the sunset since in summer it happens at around 9 PM.
Bath – Bath is a town set in the rolling countryside of southwest England, known for its natural hot springs. It’s a world heritage site designated by UNESCO. There are thriving culture and shopping opportunities, outstanding architectural sights with roman baths being the major tourist attraction. There was a carnival going on when we visited. Bath is famous for its university worldwide.
If you’re more of a history person, you should definitely give it a visit. Audio guides might come in handy 😉
The city of Bath was more like Belgium with abbey’s and chapel’s everywhere.
You can get here by taking a rail from Paddington station.
